Let the Dreamer Dream

I've always wanted to be the girl running through the grass into the arms of her high school sweetheart, barefoot in the dewy morning. I want that love, so far from puppy love, that permeates every fibre of both their beings. The strolls down the tree-lined lanes, golden leaves falling gently at their feet. His arm around her shoulders, hers around his waist. The talks they have about anything and everything. Their feelings, dreams, hopes, wishes. She loves him unconditionally and the same holds true for him. True, they still fight, unable to perfectly agree, but they always manage to bring back the harmony that has forever existed in their relationship.

Or maybe I've always wanted to be the other girl, the curly headed princess who wears lovely, summery dresses and smiles each moment of her life. The drama queen who knows how to act and when to play it serious. She gets the boy in the end, that charming one who's got a flair for arrogance but does his best to tone it down and master it. He loves her, follows her like the sun follows the moon, the day follows the night, the clouds follow the stars. They take long walks on the beach, holding hands, discussing everything from poetry to politics. He treats her gently, with the kind of respect she craves. And when he begs her to grace him with her hand, she accepts without question, certain that her future lies with him.

It's a daydream many girls have had, and some girls achieve. We never seem to forget the delight our imagination has provided for us, that innocent, creative spark that dances in the darkness, bringing a vividness to our often dull and colourless world. It changes reality, making it into a fantastic creation that still holds the nuances of the concrete world. While our dreams are often abstract, they begin to take shape when we make an effort. We can make a difference if we believe in ourselves and in those around us. There's a tiny flame of goodness in every single human being, whether we're able to see it or not. Without it, we would not be who we are. We would not be human. Without it, we wouldn't have dreams, those beautiful visions that tempt us, make us long so passionately to fulfill them. Without them, we just are. We're nothing. And everyone is something.
